Castlemilk West - An Early History
(Information and photos taken from the church magazine, the Castlemilk Crusader)

1955

The church began with a few people worshipping in a builders' hut, and on the 21st September the Reverend D. A. Macleod, M.A. was inducted as its first minister.

The offering at the first service was £3 0s 2d.

A Kirk Session was formed, composed of elders of neighbouring congregations, and "the loyalty and faithful work of these Assessor Elders contributed largely to the rapid growth of a worshipping and working congregation in Castlemilk". The first Kirk Session meeting was held in the Session House of Battlefield East Church.

By 18th October the number attending the Sunday service was about 70 and approximately 100 children were attending the Sunday School.

On 11th December thirty-one people were admitted to Church membership at the evening preparatory service for Communion.

By 13th December it was reported that the Men's Association had been started with 12 members, the Woman's Guild with 35 members, the Boys' Brigade with 20, 34 in the Life Boys, and 66 in the Girls' Guildry. Over 200 were in the Sunday School.

The first Communion services were held in Arnprior Road School. 112 people took Communion.

In 1956 a deaconess, Miss C.J. McNaughton came to work in Castlemilk West.
